Efeca has joined the Tropical Forest Alliance 2020 (TFA 2020) Partnership, working to catalyse transformative change at the landscape level in key regions of South East Asia, South America and West & Central Africa.
The Tropical Forest Alliance 2020 (TFA 2020) is a global public-private partnership in which partners take voluntary actions, individually and in combination, to reduce the tropical deforestation associated with the sourcing of commodities such as palm oil, soy, beef, and paper and pulp.
TFA 2020 was brought about by the Consumer Goods Forum (CGF) commitment to mobilise resources within member businesses to help achieve zero net deforestation by 2020. The alliance includes the governments of both tropical forest and donor/consumer countries, NGOs and representatives of indigenous people, and businesses spanning commodity supply chains.
TFA 2020 has throughout the years grown its partner members and continues to bring on board those key actors committed to tackling deforestation. Efeca is proud to join this important partnership of champions for deforestation-free global and local economies, contributing our expertise on deforestation commodities.
In specific, we will work with the TFA 2020 partnership to:
• Improve planning and management related to tropical forest conservation, agricultural land use and land tenure
• Share best practices for tropical forest and ecosystem conservation and commodity production, including working with smallholder farmers and other producers on sustainable agricultural intensification, promoting the use of degraded lands and reforestation
• Provide expertise and knowledge to assist with the development of commodity and processed-commodity markets that promote the conservation of tropical forests
• Improve monitoring of tropical deforestation and forest degradation to measure progress
We look forward to sharing our experience in capacity building, sharing lessons, facilitation, monitoring and reporting change with the partnership, through regional initiatives in Indonesia, Brazil and Africa, the Financial Sector Engagement Initiative, and the Better Growth for Forests Initiative.
